Diane Hovey, Ph.D. ~ Transformational Healing

Hi Diane! Thanks so much for doing this interview 🙂

diane - Portrait -_3INWhat do you offer in the community?

I offer healing that embraces mind/body/spirit. My training includes the scientific understanding of problems within the body, as well as formal training in psychology with a masters in counseling and a PhD in biomed. Coupled with that I have trained with shamanic masters from around the globe starting when still in my early twenties back in the late 1960’s up to the present. Most recently I spent time learning from a Malecu shaman in Costa Rica.

What led you to offering the services you do?

It was in part my own frustration with the current medical approach to healing that did not even begin to address the issues.

What do you love most about what you do?

What I love most is watching my clients change while on my treatment table. Seeing their faces relax as paid dissolves and watching them leave wearing a smile — and sometimes carrying the crutches they needed to walk when they arrived.

What inspires you?

Inspiration comes from many places. My clients’ improvement fuels my passion to learn more. The excitement of discovery, and the potential of doing even more, stokes the fire to continue being better. Living where I do surrounds me with the grounding of trees and water, the elemental energies that bring it all into balance. Knowing that while I cannot help everyone, I can help many live happier and more fulfilled lives.

Hovey Diane - Maleku shaman calling spirits_5INWhat are you looking forward to in the future?

I am looking toward shifting my work away from the physically demanding aspects and toward the more subtle approaches. I see that including more of the lymphatic and cranial sacral work, coupled with brainwave conditioning. These modalities pair beautifully with the shamanic work. I will also be bringing more of my photography into my practice to create unique healing images conceived in a healing journey for my shamanic clients. I see them as being a large, fine art image printed on metal that will serve as a meditation focal point for my client during his or her healing process.

Why do you like being a part of WellBEing Resource?

WellBEing Resource is a unique publication that reaches out into the community in a way other directories do not. It is more than a directory. It is also a network that succeeds in bringing like minded individuals together who would have never otherwise met.

Thanks so much Diane!

Pamela (Spencer) Conner, Nutritionist

Pamela Spencer_5inHi Pamela! So excited to interview you 🙂

What do you offer here in the local community?

Nutritional Therapy And Naturopathic Medicine. Specializing in digestive disorders, mood disorders, cleansing programs, weight management, and hormone balancing.

What lead you to offering that?

Carl Jung said it best: I am a Wounded Healer. My health started to decline at the age 19 and traditional medicine was unable to help. Alternative Medicine did. After regaining my health I knew I wanted to help others reverse and prevent disease states and imbalance. I went from a terrible quality of life to regaining my health and have more energy than I need in a day and a create quality of life to be the athlete I am today.

What do you love most about what you do?

I help people make big changes in their health and quality of life. Most individuals that come to me are highly motivated to make the changes they need to make but don’t know what they are. For example, to watch someone start out with me with an autoimmune condition and heal out of it brings so much joy to me.

What inspires you?

Watching the human body heal itself, or bring itself back into balance, is amazing to me and inspires me to help as many people have vitality and a great quality of life. Also, older persons that are free from diseases, health imbalances and that are fit and active is very inspiring for me. These persons show me what is possible if we take good care of our bodies. I want to be that person in my older years!

What are you looking forward to in the future?

I’m looking forward to continuing to grow my practice. I’m expanding my Roseville office into a Wellness Center and I’m really excited about it.

Why do you like being a part of WellBEing Resource?

I enjoy supporting a local small business and especially one that supports health, wellness, and nutrition.

Thanks so much Pamela!

TreeHugger :)

Hugging trees is a meditation and a union. Today is a beautiful day to hug a tree 🙂 Honor the tree with touch, wrap your arms around it, and take a few deep breaths. Just feel the energy coming from the tree. Notice that the tree is alive just like you and me! It is resilient and enduring. It is fruitful, abundant, and always evolving.

“I have always felt very very drawn to trees! I just love them..it’s like they speak to me in a very special way. This is me hugging a redwood along the ‘Avenue of Giants’ last year. I am a proud tree hugger!” Angela Ramos

“Hug a tree today. It will make your soul happy.” Gay Cooper, TreeHugger

“Sankalpa” Setting Intention for 2012

On New Years Day I visited Rise Yoga in the Greenhaven Pocket area of Sacramento, CA for an “Inspired Intention” yoga class, in which through meditation and asana (yoga postures), we set personal intentions from our most heartfelt desire.  The yoga teacher and studio owner Ann guided us into an “I Am” statement and suggested we let it come from the heart (not the head).

What came up for me during my New Years Day class was “I Am Love” and it evolved into “I Am In Love”.  Through the class I discovered my core, and was reminded of my deepest desires and to be true to myself.

This can be a practice we can do each day, or any other time, during yoga practice, meditation, or even just lying in bed (morning or night).  As we breath and state “I Am…  I Am…  I Am…”, allowing moments between each “I Am” and allowing your head/mind to stay silent, while your heart fills in the rest of the statement.  Practicing patience with a knowing that what’s true will arise.

(Jan. 2 Morning Follow up: So inspired by my New Year’s Day Yoga class, I am continuing the month with an “I AM” Kundalini Yoga and meditations series with Sukhbir {Monday and Wednesday mornings starting at 5am during January at The Yoga Seed} to ignite the fire of the THIRD CHAKRA and overcome inertia! This course is geared to help us strengthen our will, discipline and commitment so that we are able to set goals and have the staying power to achieve them.)

(Jan. 2 Evening Follow up: I desired more yoga after a long day… And, now, I am learning to respect my desires… So this evening, I visited It’s All Yoga and took a Level 1 Yoga Class with the lovely Michelle Marlahan ~ the class had emphasis on breath, alignment, and strong focus on the presence… the here and now. I left feeling joyful and calm).

Please share what comes to “heart” for you…
